Eliza Athans
As a medical assistant, Eliza Athans brings a strong background in health sciences, patient care, and wellness to the Access Healthcare team. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise and Sports Science and minors in Neuroscience and Health and Society. She is also a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Sports Nutritionist, and Certified Personal Trainer. She is currently in nursing school at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Eliza’s experience combines clinical exposure with a longstanding interest in health, exercise, and preventive care. As a research assistant with UNC’s Motion Science Institute Cardiometabolic Lab, she participated in research involving collegiate athletes, assisting with data collection, sensor-based assessments, and ultrasound techniques while gaining exposure to ongoing research in exercise and sports science.
Her earlier work at a busy optometric practice provided valuable experience across multiple aspects of the patient experience, including patient care, reception, insurance, and optical services. She communicated directly with patients, assisted with the check-in and rooming process, coordinated laboratory reports and contact lens orders, and helped manage appointment and insurance needs.
Eliza also has a strong commitment to service. During her time at UNC, she spent several years supporting children and families at UNC Children’s Hospital through fundraising, family assistance, volunteer coordination, and direct interaction with pediatric patients. These experiences helped strengthen the empathy, communication, and organizational skills she brings to patient care today.
With her interests in exercise science, neuroscience, nutrition, and preventive health, Eliza is excited to be part of Access Healthcare’s personalized approach to medicine. She enjoys building relationships with patients and helping create the attentive, welcoming experience that is central to the Access Healthcare model.
