Family Medicine and Concierge Care on Johns Island

Access Healthcare is pleased to welcome Emily Milbank Doelger, M.D. to our physician team. An accomplished physician with more than a decade of experience in emergency and acute care medicine, Dr. Doelger brings an exceptional breadth of clinical experience, a calm and thoughtful approach to complex medical concerns, and a genuine enthusiasm for developing long-term relationships with her patients.

Education and Experience

Dr. Doelger’s path to medicine began in nursing, where she cared for critically ill children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She subsequently earned her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Her career has taken her from major academic medical centers—including Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the Mass General system and Harvard Medical School—to clinical practice in California, Massachusetts, Texas, and, ultimately, Charleston. She has served as an attending emergency physician, educator, and medical director and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

After years of caring for patients in emergency and hospital settings, Dr. Doelger is particularly excited to bring her experience to the more personal and proactive environment of concierge primary care. Dr. Doelger’s ability to handle many high-stakes medical issues serves her well in the primary care setting. While emergency medicine taught her to quickly evaluate complicated symptoms, recognize serious illness, and make decisions when the stakes are high, concierge medicine offers something she values deeply: the time to truly know her patients.

Preventive Care for Individuals and Families

At Access Healthcare, Dr. Doelger looks forward to developing relationships that extend well beyond a single visit. The concierge model allows her to spend more time listening, understand each patient’s health history and goals, emphasize prevention and early intervention, and remain closely involved when a patient needs specialty or hospital care. Her extensive acute-care experience also provides a valuable perspective when new or unexpected medical concerns arise. Having a female perspective on primary care serves Dr. Doelger’s patients well.

For Dr. Doelger, this next chapter represents an opportunity to combine the clinical judgment developed through years of emergency medicine with the continuity, accessibility, and highly individualized care that define Access Healthcare. She is enthusiastic about helping patients not only navigate illness when it occurs, but also make thoughtful decisions that support their health and quality of life for years to come.
